Agreement to Terms

Welcome to Bible Progress! These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Bible Progress website and application (collectively, the "Service") located at bibleprogress.com.

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree with these Terms, please do not use the Service.

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.

Description of Service

Bible Progress is a free web-based Bible reading tracker that helps users track their progress through the King James Version (KJV) Bible using word-weighted calculations. The Service provides:

  • Chapter-level progress tracking weighted by word count
  • Multiple reading plans (Sequential, M'Cheyne, Horner, One Year)
  • Multi-profile support for tracking different readers
  • Local storage of reading data in your browser
  • Optional cloud synchronization via Firebase
  • Reading streak tracking and visualization
  • Progress statistics and charts

Use of Service

Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree NOT to:

  • Use the Service in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Service
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers/networks connected to the Service
  • Use automated systems (bots, scripts) to access the Service without permission
  • Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code (except as permitted by license)
  • Upload or transmit malicious code, viruses, or harmful materials
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation
  • Use the Service to spam, harass, or harm others

Account Security

If you create an account for cloud sync features:

  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials
  • You agree to immediately notify us of any unauthorized access to your account
  • You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account
  • You may not share your account credentials with others

User Content and Data

Your Data

You retain all rights to your reading progress data and profile information. By using cloud sync, you grant us permission to:

  • Store your data on Firebase servers for the purpose of providing cloud sync functionality
  • Process your data to display progress, statistics, and other Service features
  • Back up your data for disaster recovery purposes

Data Backup

While we take reasonable measures to back up data, you are responsible for maintaining your own backups. We recommend regularly using the export feature to download your reading progress data.

Intellectual Property

Service Content

The Service and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by Bible Progress and are protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

Bible Text

The King James Version (KJV) Bible text is in the public domain. Word count data and reading plans are derived from publicly available sources.

Open Source

Portions of the Service code may be available under open source licenses. Please refer to the LICENSE file in the source repository for specific licensing terms.

Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with third-party services including:

  • Google Firebase - Authentication, cloud storage, and analytics
  • Blue Letter Bible - External Bible reading links
  • Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) - Tailwind CSS, Chart.js libraries

Your use of these third-party services is subject to their respective terms of service and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices or content of third-party services.

Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.

We do not warrant that:

  • The Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free
  • The results obtained from using the Service will be accurate or reliable
  • Any errors in the Service will be corrected
  • The Service will meet your specific requirements

Your use of the Service is at your own risk. We make no guarantees about the accuracy of reading progress calculations, though we strive for precision in word count data.

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BIBLE PROGRESS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES.

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Loss of reading progress data
  • Errors in progress calculations
  • Service downtime or unavailability
  • Unauthorized access to your account
  • Bugs, viruses, or other harmful code

Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Bible Progress and its affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including attorney's fees) arising from:

  • Your use of the Service
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any rights of another party
  • Any content you submit or transmit through the Service

Service Availability

We strive to maintain high availability of the Service, but we do not guarantee:

  • Continuous, uninterrupted access to the Service
  • That the Service will be available at all times
  • Any specific uptime percentage

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part thereof) at any time, with or without notice, for any reason.

Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account and access to the Service:

  • For violation of these Terms
  • For fraudulent, abusive, or illegal activity
  • At our sole discretion, with or without notice

You may terminate your account at any time by:

  • Signing out and clearing local data
  • Requesting account deletion via email

Privacy

Your privacy is important to us. Please review our Privacy Policy to understand how we collect, use, and protect your information. The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

Changes to Service

We reserve the right to:

  • Modify or update the Service at any time
  • Add or remove features without notice
  • Change the Service's pricing model (currently free)
  • Discontinue the Service entirely

Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be resolved through binding arbitration, except where prohibited by law.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. The invalid provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable.

Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Bible Progress regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements and understandings.
